Donor Programme

Donor sperm, eggs or embryos give some couples or single women their only chance of having a baby.

Using Donor egg:
If the women is unable to produce eggs due to ovarian failure or decreased ovarian reserve or is unable to produce healthy embryos due to poor quality eggs. As per regulations, the egg donor is anonymous and undergoes rigorous medical testing prior to selection. The donor receives ovarian stimulation
injections and undergoes egg retrieval while the woman usually receives some hormonal tablets for endometrial preparation. The eggs retrieved from the donor are then fertilized using sperm from male partner and the embryo is transferred 3-5 days post fertlisation Using an donated eggs may be a suitable option for women :

• going through premature menopause or with poor ovarian reserve
• at a high risk of passing on genetic disease
• whose ovaries have been affected by chemotherapy or serious illness
• who have had multiple failed IVF treatment cycles

The success rate of IVF/ICSI using donor egg treatment is directly related to the age of the donor, and the number and quality of the donated eggs.

Using Donor Sperm:
Donor sperm can provide many women and couples with their only chance of having a healthy baby, including:

• Male with nil or very poor sperm count
• couples who have a high likelihood of passing on a genetic condition
• single women and same sex couples

Donor identity is kept anonymous as per regulations. They are carefully screened and receive blood tests for sexually transmitted diseases, both before they donate, and three months after they have donated. Sperm is quarantined until all analysis is complete and results are known.

Using Donor embryos :

• It may benefit those couples
• who have experienced repeated failed IVF cycles, or other fertility treatments have been unsuccessful (or are likely to be unsuccessful due to a number of factors)
• oth the partners are unable to produce either eggs or sperm.
