Fertility Preservation

Fertlity Preservation is any type of procedure used to help keep a person’s ability to have children. A fertility preservation procedure is done before a medical treatment that may cause infertility, such as radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Examples of fertility preservation procedures include sperm
banking, egg freezing, in vitro fertilization with embryo freezing, and certain types of surgery for cervical and ovarian cancer.

Besides cancer patients people with certain diseases, disorders, and life events that affect fertility may benefit from fertility preservation, for example:

• Have been exposed to toxic chemicals in the workplace or during military duty
• Have endometriosis
• Are about to be treated for an autoimmune disease, such as lupus
• Have a genetic disease that affects future fertility
• Delay having children
