Intracytoplasmic sperm injection or ICSI is a procedure in which a single sperm is injected directly into the egg. ICSI is very similar to conventional IVF and differs in the method used to achieve fertilization. In IVF a large number of actively motile sperm are required and one of the many sperms fertilse the egg naturally whereas in ICSi one single good sperm is enough to fertilise one egg.
Which couples may benefit from ICSI?
Male factor infertility with very low sperm count or motility and morphology In case of surgically retrieved sperm When there has been previous fertilization failure using conventional IVF
